Our responsibility

Maintal is an independent family business with a tradition stretching back more than 135 years. We don’t think in three-month blocks, we think in generations. We are convinced that economic, environmental and social factors must always be in harmony.

We clearly defined environmental protection goals, we made investments in a timely manner and carried out constant improvements. All of this have long been a top priority for us. In 2021, we were able to achieve another important step:
We are climate neutral!

Sustainable future – living responsibility

Environmental protection has been a top priority at Maintal Konfitüren for many years. We have been covering our energy needs with green electricity for a long time. We are constantly working to reduce water and energy consumption and to use fossil fuels sustainably and sparingly. More than 50% of our spreads contain ingredients from controlled organic farming, thus conserving nature’s resources. We record our emissions in order to work continuously on further reducing and avoiding them. And much more. We are certainly already doing a lot of things right. But that is not enough for us.

No matter how sustainable and economical you are, every person and every company produces carbon emissions. That is why we have decided to offset our emissions. Forest protection for unavoidable emissions. We don’t want to buy a clear conscience with this but we are spending money on environmental damage that we have also helped to cause. At the same time, of course, we are continuing to work on gradually making our carbon footprint neutral.

> To the climate neutrality overview

How do climate action projects work?

In addition to avoiding and reducing greenhouse gases, offsetting is an important step in holistic climate action. Without offsetting, the Paris Agreement target is no longer achievable – the necessary technologies simply do not yet exist to reduce all emissions drastically enough. Investing in climate action projects also promotes sustainable development in Southern Hemisphere countries, so progress does not have to be based solely on fossil fuels.

A climate neutral company - was does this mean?

1. How to calculate a Corporate Carbon Footprint
"Climate neutral company": Together with ClimatePartner we gathered all CO2 emissions which are produced by our company. We took into account emission sources such as energy and heating, but also business travels, office supplies and all emissions which are caused directly by us as a company. Other emissions produced beyond our control are not considered in our calculation. Such as, emissions which occur during the production of raw materials or packaging neither which are produced during logistics or waste disposal.

2. Avoid and reduce emissions
Our CCF calculation shows us where we need to reduce our carbon emissions. We update it every year to monitor our progress and identify additional areas for improvement.

3. Carbon offset
For the time being, some emissions remain unavoidable. We offset them by supporting a project from the ClimatePartner portfolio: Clean wind energy with various social benefits for Brazilian communities www.climatepartner.com/1138

 4. Create transparency
Via our label stating "climate neutral company" and the ID, you can track our climate neutrality through the ClimatePartner ID tracking tool: www.climatepartner.com/16186-2105-1001
